1. Product & Material
Q1. What is this product and what is it used for?
It is a lead-free X-ray radiation protective apron (shielding garment) worn by healthcare professionals during X-ray, CT, fluoroscopy and interventional procedures. It shields the wearer’s torso, chest and abdomen, and is widely used in radiology, cardiology, urology, gastroenterology, orthopedics, dentistry, veterinary practice and X-ray-assisted surgery.
Q2. What is Cabala-tex® and how does it work?
Cabala-tex® is Viewmed's patented nano-synthetic radiation-shielding material. Through multi-layer lamination, textile fabric and a protective colloid are combined into one monolithic substance, giving lighter weight and enhanced strength while delivering outstanding shielding performance.
Q3. Is the apron lead-free? What does it contain?
Yes. Lead-free bismuth is the main shielding component, and the material is free of tin, barium, antimony and other heavy metals — a safer and more environmentally responsible choice without compromising protection.
Q4. How well does it protect compared with traditional lead aprons?
It is engineered to provide sound safety protection for both healthcare workers and examinees, with shielding performance validated to the relevant attenuation standard (IEC 61331-1) and standard lead-equivalence options available (e.g., 0.35 / 0.50 mm Pb classes). The exact rating depends on the model configuration you select — confirm it when ordering.
Q5. How heavy is it?
Very light. The standard Size L weighs approximately 3.8 kg, noticeably lighter than conventional lead aprons of the same size. This reduces shoulder and back strain during long procedures.
Q6. What sizes are available?
The apron is available from XXS to XXL, and custom sizes can be made to order. A recommended size chart is provided to help you select the right fit.
2. Safety, Compliance & Environment
Q7. Is the product certified?
Yes. The product family is manufactured under ISO 13485 quality management, registered as a Class I medical device under the EU MDR (registration no. DE/CA20/00196), carries CE conformity in accordance with PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425, and its shielding materials are tested to IEC 61331-1:2014.
Q8. Is it safe for me and my patients?
Yes. It provides sound safety protection for healthcare workers and examinees. The materials are RoHS-compliant (verified by SGS) — free of lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium and restricted phthalates — and meet hospital infection-control standards.
Q9. Does it meet hospital infection-control requirements?
Yes. The washable material and construction meet hospital infection-control standards, allowing the apron to be cleaned regularly without losing shielding performance.
Q10. Is it environmentally friendly?
Yes. Because it is lead-free and contains no tin, barium or antimony, it lowers environmental impact across production, use and disposal, while matching or surpassing the integrated advantages of imported alternatives.
3. Comfort, Fit & Customization
Q11. Is it comfortable to wear during long procedures?
Yes. The lightweight design and ergonomic cut keep mobility and reduce fatigue. A standard waistband supports the lower back during prolonged standing, and optional shoulder pads further distribute weight for extra comfort.
Q12. What configuration options are available?
The waistband is standard; shoulder pads and custom printing (e.g., your hospital or clinic logo) are optional. Custom sizes and multiple fabric options are also available — contact us for details.
Q13. What complementary accessories are available?
A complete line of protection is available to pair with the apron, including thyroid collars, protective glasses, gloves, gonad shields, caps, face shields, as well as apron care equipment and care/testing services.
4. Care, RFID & Warranty
Q14. How do I clean and maintain it?
The apron is washable and compatible with Viewmed fully automatic washing machines for convenient, hygienic cleaning. Store it on a proper hanger when not in use to preserve its shape. Dedicated apron cleaning, care and testing services are also available.
Q15. What does the RFID feature do?
RFID-embedded garments support full-lifecycle monitoring and traceability. Each apron can be identified and its usage, cleaning and maintenance history tracked — helping facilities manage inventory and quality control.
Q16. What warranty does it carry?
The apron is covered by a 3-year warranty.
Q17. Do I need to test the apron periodically?
Viewmed offers apron care and testing services, and periodic shielding checks are recommended as part of a facility’s QC program to ensure ongoing protection.
5. Ordering & Support
Q18. How do I choose the right model and size?
Consider your daily procedure type and required shielding level, then select the size from the recommended size chart (XXS–XXL or custom). Our team can advise on the best model and configuration for your department.
